Description

The coat color is very pale to brownish color with brown markings on neck. Dark patch

between horns and running towards the nose area. Ears have decorated design with a

long black hair

Head to Body length : 152 -170 cm ( 60 – 67 in )

Shoulder Height : 115-140 cm ( 45 – 55 in )

Horn Length : 64 – 120 cm ( 25 – 47 in )

Tail length : 47 cm (18.5 in )

Weight : 167-209kg ( 368- 461lbs ) – males / 116-188kg ( 256-414lbs ) – females  

Range : Northeastern Tanzania and into Southern Kenya

Habitat : Arid Grasslands, forested savannas, semi-desert plains, thick brush and rocky

hillside

Diet. : Acacia pods in bulk, wild melon, cucumbers, herbs, roots, flowers bulbs. In

zoos grass hay. Herbivore pellets and carrots

Status : the population is declining

Reason for status : hunting and trophy trade

Gestation : 8 – 9 months

Longevity : 22 years in captivity / 18 years in wild
