Physical description

  • The dark brown coat is short and dense.

  • The legs are white and tan.

  • There is a hump in the shoulder which is more pronounced in males.

  • Both males and females have horns.

Head to body Length :  250 – 330 cm ( 8.3 – 11.0 ft )
Tail Length : 70-100 cm ( 28- 40 in )

Horn Length : 80 cm ( 32 in )

Shoulder Height : 170- 220cm ( 5.6 – 7.2 feet )

Weight : 700 – 1000kg ( 1540 – 2200 lbs )

Range – Nepal , India to Indochina and Malay Peninsula 

Habitat – Forested hills and grassy clearings

Food – green grasses and leaves

Status: Endangered.1000 left remaining in the wild

Reason For Status :  Hunting and habitat destruction

Gestation :  9 months

Lifespan :  30 years in captivity/ 13 years in wild
