Physical description

the manatees color is grey or brown.

they have no hind limbs; they don’t have much fur on their body to help with their lives in water; they do not have blubber and they stay in warm waters.

General Characteristics

Length :  2.7 – 3.5 m (8.9 – 11 feet) sometimes largest individual could measure up to4.5 m (15 feet)

Weight :  200 – 600 kg (450 – 1300 lbs); females generally larger than males; sometimes the largest individuals could weigh even up to 1500 kg (3300 lbs).

Tail  Length :

Range : Caribbean, along the eastern coast of Central America and the northern coast of South America as far as northeastern Brazil

Habitat – Shallow rivers, canals, saltwater bays, estuaries and coastal areas.

Diet –  Sea Grasses

Status – They are declining in numbers

Reason for the status – Hunting and Illegal Poaching

Gestation Period – 335 days

Lifespan – 28 years in captivity / 30 years in wild
