Southern brown kiwi
Description
The Southern Brown Kiwi body is reddish brown or brownish red. They have long and slender slight down curved bill.
Head to body : 45-55 cm ( 18-22 in )
Weight : 2.1-3.9 kg ( 4.6 -8.6 lbs ) females Males : 1.6 – 2.8 kg ( 3.5-6.2 lbs )
Range : Southland and Stewart Island
Habitat: Temperate , subtropical forests, grassland and shrubland
Diet. : earthworms, beetle, larvae,snails,spiders, and centipedes
Status: The population is decreasing
Reason for status: Habitat loss
Incubation period : 11 weeks
Longevity: 20 years in wild / 40 years in captivity
