Physical Description

This species is dark brown in color, paler in the face, and has a low, erect crest running from the crown down the back of the neck.

The round, dark ears have distinctive white edges.

Length : 5 1/2 to 61/2 feet ( 1.7 to 2 meters )

Tail length : 18 – 39 inches ( 46 – 100 cm)

Weight : 500 550 lbs ( 225 – 250 kg )

Shoulder Height : 75-120 cm ( 29.5 to 47 inches )

Range : North and Central South America

Habitat : Woodland or Dense grassy habitats near water

Diet : Grasses, reeds, fruits, and other vegetation

Status : Endangered

Reason for the status : Poaching for meat , and Habitat Destruction

Gestation Period – 13 months

Lifespan 35 years
