General Characteristics

This species is darker reded in color

Head to body Length : 220 -290 cm ( 7.2 -9.5 feet)

Tail Length : 90 cm ( 3 feet )

Horn Length :  108 cm ( 4 feet )  – males /  65 cm ( 2.2 feet )

Shoulder Height : 170 cm ( 67 inches )

Weight : 400 -1000 kg – male / 300 – 600 kg

Range – Southern Tanzania , south eastern Sudan , Southwestern Ethiopia Kenya , Uganda and Rwanda

Habitat – They live both steppe and sparse forest

Food – Leaves and fruit

Status – Population have been declining

Reason For Status :  hunting , habitat destruction and hinder pest disease

Gestation :   8 – 9 months

Lifespan : eland in the wild – 15 to 20 yrs / captivity – 23 yrs
