Pangolin Pholidota

 

  • The order pholidota belongs to the group Pangolin.

  •  They have horny body scales growing from a thick underlying skin.

  •   They have an extraordinary tongue longer than the animals head and body.

  •  It is coiled in the mouth when at rest.

  •  The tongue can be extended and flicked into ant nests and termite mounts.

  •  Pangolins do not have teeth.

  • They have powerful muscles and small pebbles in their stomach to grind up the food.

  •  Some species are terrestrial.

  •  They dig underground burrows for shelter the daytime.

  •  The Giant Ground Pangolin is the only terrestrial pangolin species.

  •  There are 6 other types of Pangolin that are prehensile tailed that help them to climb and curl up into balls inside hallows trees:

1. Giant Ground Pangolin – They are terrestrial

2. Long Tailed Pangolin & other tree dwelling species – Prehensile tailed
