GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

  •   They are dark brown to black in color·

  • Males being darker in color than females.

  • They  have an area of longer, dark hair between the forelegs, covering the chest this species.

  • They have a patch of bristly black hair along the bridge of the nose.

HORN LENGTH:  45 -78 cm ( 18 – 31 in )

Tail Length:  80 to 100 cm / 2.6 – 3.3 feet

SHOULDER HEIGHT: 90 – 120 / 3 – 4 feet

WEIGHT: 110 – 180 kg / 242 -396 lbs

RANGE: Game farms in South Africa

HABITAT: grasslands and acacia savannah

FOOD: Shrubs and trees

STATUS: .This species is reducing in population in the wild, This species can be now found only game reserves and zoos.

REASON FOR STATUS : Hunting, and habitat destruction,.

GESTATION PERIOD : 8.0 – 8.5 months

LIFESPAN: 20 years in both captivity and wild
