Physical description

Barasingha is a deer that has dark brown to orange color coat.

Males are slightly darker than females.

The underparts are white in color.

Shoulder Height : 119-124 cm ( 3.9-4.1ft)

Weight : 170-280kg ( 374 -616 lbs )

Number of antlers : 6-8 antlers

RANGE : Northern India

HABITAT : marshy grassland, flood pains and meadows

DIET : grasses, mainly leaves

Status : the numbers are reducing

Reason for status : hunting and poaching

Gestation : 240-250 days

Lifespan : 23 years in captivity / 20 years in wild
