General Characteristics
Male and female bantengs can be easily recognized .
Both males and females carry the characteristic white stockings and white rump, as well as white muzzle and white spots above the eyes.
Females are brown to reddish brown with a dark dorsal stripe.
Their short crescent-shaped horns point inward at the tips and their appearance is trim and distinctly cattle-like.
Males have blackish brown to blue-black with the horns being more angular and turning out and then up, with the tips turning inward.
Both males and females have a slight hump on their back above the shoulders.

Tail Length : 65-70 cm / 2.1-2.3 ft.
Horn Length :Â 60 – 75 cm ( 2- 2.5 ft )
Shoulder Height :Â 160 cm / 5.3 ft.
Weight : 600-800 kg / 1320-1760 lb
Range – Borneo ,Java, Bali , Burma, Thailand and Malaysia
Habitat – Dense forest and bamboo jungles
Food – Grasses, leaves and shoots
Status – Endangered. Over 80% of its population has declined the past 20 years. There is only 5,000 remaining in the wild
Reason For Status :Â Habitat Destruction, illegal trade, and diseases from domestic cattle
Gestation :Â 9.50 months
Lifespan :Â 18 years in the wild / 20 – 26 years in captivity
