AMPHIBIA

 

  • Amphibians are animals that live both in land and water.

  • Like reptiles they are cold blooded animals.

  • They have moist skin.

  •  Most species lay their eggs in the water.

  • Young larva stage is in water and adult in terrestrial (Land).

  • All adults of amphibians are carnivores.

  • Some of them develop on land directly.

  • Most amphibians skin helps them to maintain water balance and protect their body

 

There are three orders of Amphibia.  

1.      Caecilians – (Earthworms) – they are limbless, with bullet shaped heads and tails.  

2.      Caudata – (Salamanders and Newts) – cylindrical bodies long tailed with heads and necks and well developed limbs.

3.      Anura – (frogs and toads) they have stout tailess body with well developed limbs.
