Physical Description

The Javan rhino is a dusky grey color.

The skin has a number of loose folds giving the appearance of amour plating.

This species is very similar in appearance to the closely-related Indian rhinoceros, but is slightly smaller, with a much smaller head and the skin folds less apparent than in the Indian rhino.

Recent evidence suggests that the horn may be absent or very small in females.

The upper lip is pointed and can be used to grasp food and bring it to the mouth.
General Characteristics
Length : 6 – 11.5 feet ( 2.0 -4.0 meters )
Horn length : 10 inches ( 25 centimeters ) only males. Females have no or smaller horn.
Weight : 2,000 to 5,060 pounds ( 900 to 2,300 kg )
Height : 5.0 -5.5 feet ( 1.5 – 1.7 meters )
Range : Java and Vietnam
Habitat : Low lying Tropical Rainforest
Diet : fruit, leaves twigs and bark
Status :There are only currently 37 – 48 Javan Rhinos remaining only in the wild.
Reason for the status : habitat destruction, diseases has affected this population
Gestation Period – 15 to 16 months
Lifespan – 30 to 45 years in the wild / 20 years in captivity
