CHINESE WATER DEER

 

  • Chinese water deer is a small deer more similar to a musk deer than a true deer.

  • They have are in the deer family despite having tusks.

  • This species deer has a downward pointing canine teeth instead of antlers.

  • This species is native to Korea and china.

  • There are two subspecies Chinese water deer & Korean water deer.

  •  The coat is golden brown in color, while the lower part is white in color.

  •  They have long narrow legs and a beautiful neck. The power hind legs are longer than front legs.

  • The face is reddish brown or gray in color.

  • The chin and upper throat are cream in color

TL : 6 – 7.5 cm ( 2.4 – 3 in )

SH : 45 -55 cm ( 18- 22 in )

W L : 9- 14 kg ( 20- 31lbs )

RANGE : china and Korea

HABITAT : swampy and open grasslands

DIET : grasses ,weeds and ,vegetables

Status : population is decreasing in the wild.

Reason for status : they are heavily hunted, and habitat loss

Gestation : 180 days ( 6 months )

Lifespan : 13 years in captivity / 10 – 12 years in wild
