Range: Sub Saharan West and most of Central and Eastern Africa

Habitat:  Scrub Savannah and Woodlands near water

Diet: grasses, leaves, reeds

Status: population is decreasing in the wild

Reason for the status: hunting, habitat loss

Gestation period – 8.5 to 9.0 months

Longevity – 10 years in the wild / 18 years in captivity
