Tree Shrew

  • The tree shrew is a small squirrel like mammals

  • They live in some Asian tropical forest .

  • They eat insects, worms, small vertebrates and fruits

  • Their sharp claws and splayed toes keep a firm grip on bark and rock alike while a long tail helps with balance.

  • They eat  holding food in their hands and may sit on their haunches, alert for enemies such as birds of prey, snakes and mongooses.

  • They spend most of the time in trees.

  • Most are semi- terrestrial.

  • Some rarely venture into trees at all.

  • There are 19 species.
