GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS 

This oryx species has a black and and white face.  

In this species black becomes fade to a brownish color.

Their basic color is white with brown necks and chests

The Scimitar horned Oryx is larger in size compared to the bigger Beisa Oryx or the other smaller oryx species Arabian.

HEAD TO BODY LENGTH : 160- 175 cm ( 5.3-5.8 ft )

HORN LENGTH: 100 -125 cm ( 3.3 -4.2 ft )

Tail Length:  60 cm ( 2 ft )

SHOULDER HEIGHT: 110 – 125 cm ( 3.6 – 4.1 ft )

WEIGHT: 180 – 200 kg ( 395 – 440lbs )

RANGE: Senegal to Central Sudan

HABITAT: Steppes of desert to semi desert environments0

FOOD: Fruits, veggies, grasses, herbs, and buds.

STATUS: Extinct in Wild. Present only in captivity ( zoos and game reserves)

REASON FOR STATUS : Overhunting , habitat destruction and domestic livestock

GESTATION PERIOD : 8.07 – 8.53 months

LIFESPAN: 18 years in the wild/ 22 yrs in captivity
