Raccoon

 

  • Procyonidae are raccoons, Coatis, Kinkajous, ring tails and Olingos.

  • All are medium sized with a long body and tail broad faces and erects ears.

  •  Apart from Kinkajou they also share mask like markings on the face and alternating light and dark rings on the tail

  • This group is omnivorous and so can exist in a wide range of habitat including wetlands, tropical rainforests, coniferous forest, and even urban areas.

  • They are very vocal, barking and squeaking to maintain complex social structures.

  • There is 14 species of Procyonidae.

  • There are 5 species of Olingo One species of kinkajou

  • Three species of Coatis

  • One Cacomistle species

  • Three raccoon species.
