Mountain Gorilla

General Characteristics

The fur of the Mountain Gorilla, often thicker and longer than that of other Gorilla species.

Head to body Length : 1.5 to 1.8 meters ( 5 -6 feet)

Height 1.2 to 1.8 meters:( 4 to 6 feet  )

Weight :  Female  240 -300 lb ( 110 – 140 kg)

Male – 440- 605lb ( 200 -275 kg )

Physical Characteristics

Range – Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda

Habitat –  Montane forest and Bamboo forest

Food – Plants, fruits, seeds, stems and barks as well as insects

Status : Critically Endangered

Reason for Status : Ebola Disorder, habitat destruction , and bush meat trade

Gestation :   8.5 months

Lifespan : 30 to 50 years
