Their head has a large round “bump”. This bump varies with age and sex, and in some animals it can form a crease.

Dorsal fin : The broad-base small “dorsal” fin is thick, curved, divided, and is located about a third down the body behind the head. As the animals age, their dorsal fin becomes broader and rounder.
Pectoral fin : a pair of Sickle shaped long pectoral fins are present in this species that gives them their name.

Reason for status: Commercial fishing and habitat loss
Gestation:Â 12-16 months
Longevity:Â males – 46 years / females – 59 years in the wild / 60 years in captivity
