They  have a dark and glossy, purplish-brown dorsal  while dorsal pelage is a dull, reddish-brown.

RANGE: Only in Southwestern ,Eastern and Central South AfricaÂ
HABITAT: Â Grasslands and Coastal Plains
FOOD:Â Short grasses
STATUS: There used to be only 17 Bontebok, Now they are extinct in the wild, except you will find them only in protected areas like in zoos.
REASON FOR STATUS : They have been killed for pests, habitat destruction, and hunting
GESTATION PERIOD : 8 months
LIFESPAN: 17 years in the wild / 21 years in captivity
