PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

They have a reddish-brown coat which is grayer on the neck and lighter down the backside and underneath.

There is a small red crest running along the head.

They have small simple horns

HEAD TO BODY LENGTH: 66 – 72 cm ( 26.4 – 28.8 in )
TAIL LENGTH: 9-12 cm ( 3.5 – 4.8 in )
HORN LENGTH: 3- 6 cm ( 1.2 – 2.4 in )
SHOULDER HEIGHT: 30 -32 cm
WEIGHT:Â 6.5 -12kg ( 2.6 – 4.8 lbs )
RANGE : Island of Zanzibar , off the coast of Tanzania, and small parts of Kenya
 HABITAT: Commonly found in thicket and Woodland
FOOD: Sprouts, Buds, and and other fresh growth found at lower level.
 STATUS: There used to be 5,000 in 1982 , now there is only 1400 of this species remaining in the wild.
REASON FOR STATUS : hunting and habitat destruction
GESTATION PERIOD: 8 months
LIFESPAN: YRS IN WILD – 12 yrs in captivity / unknown in the wild
