| GIRAFFE | The giraffe is a large African hoofed mammal belonging to the genus giraffe. It is the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant on Earth. It is classified under the family Giraffidae, along with its closest extant relative, the okapi. Traditionally, giraffes have been thought of as one species, Giraffa camelopardalis, with nine subspecies. Most recently, researchers proposed dividing them into four extant species, There are 3 species of Northern Giraffe, Southern Giraffe & Masai Giraffe. There are 4 subspecies of Northern giraffes: Kordofan Giraffe, Nubian Giraffe, and the West African Giraffe and Reticulated.
There are two types of Southern Giraffe species. There are two subspecies of southern Giraffes: Angolan Giraffe, and the South African Giraffe.
There are two types of Masai Giraffes. The two subspecies are Masai Giraffe also known as the Kilamanjaro Giraffe, and the Thornicroft’s Giraffe.
