Sirenia

 

  • Dugong and Mantees belong in the Sirena family.

  • They are the only mammals to feed on grasses and plants in shallow waters. 

  • Sea Grasses are much less than terristial grasses.

  • The four living species are all found in warm waters of tropical and subtropical regions.

  • The dugong is restricted to the sea waters only.

  • The Amazonian Manatee is found only in freshwater of Amazon River.

  • There are five species of manatees.

  • They are Amazonian, Caribbean, West African, and West Indian manatee.

  • There is one species of dugong.
