Families Tapiridae, Rhinocerotidae, and Equidae (horses, zebras, and asses) belong to this order. This is the Order Perrisodactyl.

 Perrisodactyls are mammals that are carried evenly by the central digit of the foot (third digit). The hind feet has either three toes on the (second, third or the fourth digit), or one toe (third digit). The front foot  consists of four digits, but its weight falls on the third digit. Bones of the feet are stretched and strengthened, but are reduced in number. This order walks on the tip of the end of their fingers and toes. In this order

 

All members of this family have a long tongue which assist their chewing ability from the front of the mouth to the back of the molars by crushing. Except for domestic horses and asses, other perissodactyls are not very numerous, either in species or in wild populations and are declining. Each family has one or more species in danger of extinction.
