Physical Description

After an individual age it reaches about six months of age, then the coat turns black.

Male White Cheeked Gibbons remain black and have whitish color fur around their cheeks and on the top of their heads.

The fur of females goes back to a golden or buff color when they reach an older age sometimes with black patches.

General Characteristics

Length :  18-25 inches ( 47 to 64 cm )

Weight : 15-20 LBS (7-9 kg ). Females are slightly larger than males

Range – Laos, Vietnam and southern china

Habitat – Evergreen tropical forest and monsoon forest

Diet  fruits, leaves, and small invertebrates

What type of animal : herbivore

Status –  The population has declined 50% in the past 45 years

Reason for the status – habitat conservation, logging and military activities

Gestation Period – 7 months

Lifespan 28 yrs
