PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
These animals are dark brown on the body and black at the back . They can go for several hours without drinking water.

TAIL LENGTH : 40 – 60 cm (16 – 24 in )
HORN LENGTH :Â Â 72 cm ( 28 in )
SHOULDER HEIGHT:  100 – 130 cm (39 – 51)
WEIGHT: 75 – 160 kg (165 – 352 lbs)
RANGE:Â Sub- Saharan Africa
HABITAT:Â SavannaÂ’s, Floodpains, and semi-deserts
FOOD: Â Grasses, Vary rarely leavesÂ
STATUS:Â Critically endangered.
The population has drastically reduced in the past few years.
The only zoo in the US where you can find them is San Antonio Zoo
REASON FOR STATUS: Hunting and Habitat Destruction by man
GESTATION PERIOD: Â 8 months
LIFESPAN:Â 15 YRS IN WILD / 23 YRS IN CAPTIVITY
