Sumatran Tiger

 

General Characteristics

Length  : Male : 7-8 ft

/ Female : 7-7.5 ft

 

Weight : Male : 221-309 lbs / Female : 165-243 lbs

Range – The Sumatran tigers live in only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. 

Habitat -They live in the area from lowland forest to submontain and mountain forest with some peat-moss forest.

Diet – The Sumatran tiger eats wild pig, big deer, and small deer. 

Status – There are only 400 wild Sumatran tigers are believed to exist, primarily in the island’s five national parks. 210 captive animals live in zoos around the world.

Reason for the status -Tiger population has been reducing since the early part of 20th century, and the situation is getting worse even now. This is because of habitat destruction , poaching, and using tiger fur for trading.
