Physical Description

 These species of lemurs have a Slender bodied and long legged.

 The Red ruffed lemurs have a narrow, fox-like snout and small ears that are hidden by a ruff of hair.

 The soft, woolly body fur is a deep rusty red while their extremities, forehead, crown, belly and tail are black.

They have a patch of white fur on the back of the neck and may have additional white patches on the feet, digits or mouth.

 Red ruffed lemurs and all prosimians lack extensive digit coordination so they groom themselves and each other with their teeth.
General Characteristics
Length :Â Â 110 to 120 cm ( 43 to 47 in )
Weight :  3.40 – 3.50 kg ( 7.48 to 7.7 lbs ). Females are slightly larger than males

Range – Red ruffed lemurs inhabit the deciduous tropical forests of the Masoala Peninsula near Maroansetra.
The Masoala Peninsula is one of the top conservation efforts in Madagascar
Habitat – They live in deciduous tropical forests of the Masoala Peninsula. Most of the time they are found in the upper canopy of their tropical rainforest
Diet –Â Fruit , nectar and pollen and sometimes leaves and seeds
What type of animal : Herbivore
Status – They are critically endangered with a declining wild population
Reason for the status – deforestation and hunting
Gestation Period – 90 to 103 days
Lifespan – 15 – 20 years wild / They live up to 19 years in captivity
