Malayan Tapir

 

Physical Description

This species of tapir is black with a white saddle over the back and rump which helps break up its body outline in shady forest.

Length : 1.8 to 2.5 meters ( 6.0 to 8.25 feet)

Tail length : 3 – 10 centimeters ( 2 – 4 inches )

Weight : 550 – 1190 lbs ( 252 -540 kg )

Shoulder Height : 90 -105 centimeters (3.0 – 3.5 feet )

Range : Southeast Asia

Habitat : Dense Tropical Lowland Rainforest

Diet : Tender leaves and shoots

Status : Endangered

Reason for the status : Poaching for meat , and Habitat Destruction and illegal Trade

Gestation Period – 390 – 403 days

Lifespan – Up to 30 years
