Description

 

  • Have a greater fluffy looking body.

  • They have gray to brown coat on their body with high individual variation.

  • The head ,neck , body, and legs are feathered.

  • Males are darker than females.

Head to body :  129 cm ( 51 in )

 

 Height length : 1.5 meters ( 5 feet )

 

Leg length : 30-37 cm ( 12-15 in )

 

Weight : 20-27 kg ( 44 -60kg )

 

 

Range :  Argentina, brazil,  Bolivia , Paraguay and Uruguay

     

Habitat:    Pampas Campos Woodlands of South  America

 

Diet.  :  broad leaved plants and clover

 

 

Status:  This rhea population is decreasing. Countries of Uruguay and Argentina have been seriously affected.

 

Reason for status: Due to increased hunting

 

Incubation period  : 29 – 43 days

 

Longevity:  20 years in the wild / 40 years in captivity.
